What continues to inspire you to write Science Fiction after all these years?
I am asked this question: What continues to inspire you to write Science Fiction after all these years?
,First off, let me make something clear: I am not a robot or an AI. All of my ideas come from my own imagination. And being a religious man, I believe those ideas
come from my Creator.
Second off, as a storyteller, I know that stories can be set in any place, at any time, past, present, or future. And anything can happen.
I just love Science Fiction. There's adventure and intelligence in SF that you don't always find elsewhere. And horror sometimes.
Another question: Is there a particular moment in your writing career that reaffirms your passion for speculative storytelling?
Yes. When a particular person who was a gifted journalist told me how much she loved my first good novel. That was Sky Nights, a Science Fiction novel set hundreds in the future about a fighter pilot. Its main themes were about community, love, and fear. Not the fear of losing your own life, but of losing the people you love while fighting in a brutal war.
Ironically, that person was my mother, who died the next day.
Final question: When readers finish one of your novels, what do you hope they will carry away with them? That they can't wait for my next story. Those were the last words my mother said to me.
